I've mentioned it before, but it bears repeating. Singers study vocal technique to get beyond it and, ultimately, out of the way! Having a solid foundation of vocal technique results in one's ability to achieve the same, trustworthy results, performance after performance.
Armed with modern technology, nowadays, a skilled engineer can 'thread' what seems to be a greatrecording out of bits-and-pieces of a mediocre performance just so long as a solid consonant, sustain, emotion, etc. is in the can. So the question beckons, "Why bother with studying vocal technique?" Putting aside the ability to produce it live, well that's a whole different post!? But while vocalizing an outstanding, young artist, I stumbled onto something worthwhile to share... PRO TOOLS can make you sing in tune but it can't take the sound out of your nose!? That has to be done 'in-house.' If your voice lacks clarity, flexibility, or reliability that too cannot be addressed with the click of a mouse. It can only be covered-up.
If you are a singer who struggles with pitch-ey singing or regularly experience frustration while singing, thosechallenges are an indication your singing lacks balance. Fundamentally, you lack an ease of getting out of the bottom of your voice and into the top (or vice versa.) But rest assured, you are not alone! Almostall singers struggle withthis. Recently, Adele stated she is retiring from touring due to extreme anxiety over live performances. A captivating and amazingly, gifted artist's career will unduly be cut short and never fully realized because, simply put, she lacks a basic trust in her ability to produce the sound live. Such a heartbreaking shame. Especially, since her distrust is so easily preventable.
Too many singers rest, solely, on the 'laurels of their talent' relying onalways having control over their singing conditions. Which, goes without saying, is nearly, impossible! This paradox is where skill sets in for the trained singer. A skilled vocalist possesses the necessary tools to overcome challenging tour schedules, unhealthy conditions, etc..Singing in a vocally balanced manner is easier than one might think and results in a voice that is un-manufactured, un-cluttered, and most importantly, TRUSTWORTHY!Serious vocalists consider studying vocal technique as time well-spent at the gym; building form and strength. But beware, not all voice teachers are alike. So, do your homework.
If you desire a method of singing that is easily produced across your entire vocal range in a clear, flexible tone at any dynamic level and applicable to any music genre, consider scheduling a vocal consultation. Most see dramatic results in their very first session! Schedule an appointment now!!
Post Update: Although the rest of the world has moved on since Adele's 2017 announcement, the vocal world remains equally divided between the haters and the sympathizer's. Conversations honoring Adele's immense talent, artistry, and contribution to the music world paired with an honest conversation regarding the importance of vocal health and vocal technique strikes a realistic balance. No one will experience the loss more deeply than Adele, herself! God speed a healthy and happy recovery.
